About Indian Open of Surfing 2017

The Second Edition of Indian Open of Surfing 2017 kicked off with a bang at Sashithlu Beach near Mangaluru, spanning three exciting days of surfing action. Bollywood star Suniel Shetty graced the event as its ambassador, adding to the excitement. Karnataka’s Minister for Forest, Environment, and Ecology, B Ramanath Rai, inaugurated the event, setting the stage for an exhilarating competition attended by surfers from across the globe.

Over 120 surfers, hailing from India, the US, Maldives, Reunion Island, Australia, and France, converged to showcase their skills on the waves. Recognized by the International Surfing Association and the Surfing Federation of India, the championship was organized by the Dakshina Kannada district administration, in collaboration with Karnataka Tourism and the Kanara Surfing and Water Sports Promotion Council.

Partnering with Mantra Surf Club, the event aimed to promote Mangaluru as a premier surfing destination in India, complemented by a lively food festival and various beach activities like volleyball, slacklining, skateboarding, and mixed martial arts demonstrations. Cultural performances by local and national bands added to the vibrant atmosphere, making it an unforgettable experience for both surfers and spectators alike.
